The new Swiss ambassador accredited

The Ambassador of Switzerland to Seychelles, Eric Mayoraz, presented his credentials to the President of the Republic, Mr. James Michel yesterday at State House and pledged to give new impetus to the excellent relations of friendship and cooperation between the two countries. The ceremony was an opportunity for the Head of State Seychellois welcome these excellent relations and hoped that the Seychelles and Switzerland continue to walk together in the same frame of friendship and cooperation. In this context he invited the Swiss diplomat to work with him to give a new impetus to cooperation in areas such as tourism, air services, education etc. The President Michel and Ambassador Mayoraz, which is based in Madagascar, spoke about the history of relations between the two countries that are very old and derive their strength in the precious legacy shaped since the 19th century by missionaries of the Capuchin Province of Western Switzerland who exercised a remarkable influence on the formation of the Seychellois youth of the time. They also discussed the issues of the day, including the cause of Small Island Developing States, environmental issues and the fight against climate change. In an interview with the press Seychelles, Ambassador Mayoraz reconfirmed the commitment of Switzerland to support the candidacy of Seychelles to United Nations Security Council for the period 2017-2018. The Swiss diplomat also announced the continuation of the granting scholarships to Seychelles and the provision of micro loans to non-governmental organizations carrying valuable projects in the areas of environment, health and human rights. He promised to work with the Seychelles and Comoros, which also belong to the diplomatic district, to strengthen the presence of Switzerland in the Indian Ocean. The Minister for Foreign Affairs Jean-Paul Adam, Advisor Diplomatic to the Presidency, Ambassador Callixte d'Offay, and the Honorary Consul of Switzerland to Seychelles Angelika Maurel, were also present at the presentation ceremony of the credentials of Mr. Mayoraz who also had discussions with the Vice-President Danny Faure and the President of the National Assembly, Dr. Patrick Herminie.
