“Seychelles-Cuba relations still strong,” says Deputy Speaker - 20.04.2012
The Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, André
Pool, has described his recent visit to Cuba as “very fruitful”, noting
that relations between Seychelles and the Caribbean island are “still
strong”.
Among the issues Mr Pool discussed with the Mr Alarcon de Quesada are ways to further strengthen the strong bilateral corporation that exist between the two countries and the two national assemblies and the opening of a new Seychelles embassy in Havana.
On behalf of the government of Seychelles, Mr Pool also thanked the Cuban government for its continued support in the human resources development of Seychelles by providing annual scholarships for Seychellois students.
Mr Pool also assured Mr Alarcon de Quesada that Seychelles will support the decision to renew Cuba’s membership to the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council at the UN General Assembly in May 2013. Cuba’s membership on the council ends in June 2012.
During his visit, Mr Pool had the opportunity to meet Seychellois students studying in various fields at different Cuban universities. They discussed their studies and related issues.
He also took part in a wreath-laying ceremony at the José Marti Monument and visited the Labiofam, Carlos J. Finlay Research and Production Centre and the Che Guevera Square in the Santa Clara Province. His visit ended with a meeting with the legislative leaders of the province.
