Seychelles welcomes Mr. Isaac Mangena of e-News Africa as newest member of Friends of Seychelles-Press at Johannesburg Investment Forum

Seychelles welcomes Mr. Isaac Mangena of e-News Africa as newest member of Friends of Seychelles-Press at Johannesburg Investment Forum(Forimmediaterelease.net) Another member of the international press was welcomed into the fold of “Friends of Seychelles - Press" by Alain St.Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board, during the Seychelles Investment Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa.

The forum, which was held to showcase investment opportunities in Seychelles to an audience of more than 100 potential investors, was held in the Greystone Sun Hotel, Johannesburg, between July 21 and 22.

Mr. St.Ange invited the newest member of “Friends of Seychelles-Press," Mr. Isaac Mangena of e-News Africa, to the forum to receive his certificate of membership and to be recognized by all present for his work in helping to raise the profile of the islands in the international press.

"'Friends of Seychelles-Press' is an association whose ranks are swelling, which in itself indicates that we are achieving greater outreach in our efforts to gain greater visibility on the international stage," commented Alain St.Ange.

This innovative move by Seychelles has been making news right around the world as the mid-ocean islands of the Seychelles continue to surprise the press fraternity with its commitment to sustain this appealing grouping of press personalities.

Isaac Mangena is the second TV personality from South Africa to be accredited to this unique grouping. At the 2011 Seychelles “Carnaval International de Victoria" held earlier this year, Masechaba Lekalake, the very popular SABC TV personality from South Africa was presented with her “Friends of Seychelles-Press" accreditation certificate in the ceremony following the Seychelles Carnival's press briefing.

Seychelles Tourism Board holds meetings with COMESA Senior Investment Promotion Officer

Seychelles Tourism Board holds meetings with COMESA Senior Investment Promotion Officer(Forimmediaterelease.net) The Seychelles Tourism Board CEO, Alain St.Ange, and Tourism Consultant Glynn Burridge, met with senior COMESA Investment Promotion Officer Thierry Mutombo Kalonji to discuss how the common market for Eastern and Southern Africa can collaborate with Seychelles in mutually beneficial ways.

The meeting took place as part of the Seychelles Investment Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa, held between July 21-22, 2011.

Matters under discussion included an invitation for COMESA members to convene in Seychelles for a special meeting and also ways to use the 2012 Seychelles “Carnaval International de Victoria," scheduled to take place between March 2-4, 2012, as a forum for African countries to promote their cultures.

“We at the Tourism Board believe that, although Seychelles may only be small in size and population, we can achieve things totally disproportionate to our size if we find the right partners and engage with them in ways that are mutually beneficial," commented Alain St.Ange, “It is time that ‘Africa does for Africa’ and that African nations stand shoulder to shoulder with their African brothers to raise their individual and collective profiles. We cannot expect these things to happen by themselves, we have to actively seek them and nurture them so that we can harvest the benefits."

It is expected that further meetings will take place between COMESA and the Tourism Board in the near future to confirm arrangements for greater participation from African countries in the 2nd edition of Seychelles’ new and unique carnival of carnivals.

Seychelles Tourism Ambassadors newsletter brings islands' achievements up close

Seychelles Tourism Ambassadors newsletter brings islands' achievements up close(Forimmediaterelease.net) The last issue (July) of the Seychelles Tourism Ambassador newsletter reports on the achievements of the Seychelles tourism industry both on the local and international fronts in the last month.

These are successes that have earned the islands much respect in the world and which contribute to increasing the visibility of the destination in an increasingly competitive market.

The first page of the newsletter covers the work of a group of tourism ambassadors who have come together for a project to further expose Seychelles primarily in the North American market but also beyond, to the rest of the world.

The project, entitled, “Exciting Times Ahead," will bring two filming companies to Seychelles to film places of interests, which will showcase what the islands have to offer as well as why it differs from its competitors.

Another active tourism ambassador in Paris also speaks about her participation at the Seychelles Escapades in France where she helped to sing Seychelles' praises and get her guests to appreciate the other attributes of the destination, apart from the usual sun, sand, and sea.

Latest but exciting developments on the local front include the much-awaited release of the Seychelles Carnival souvenir book, which has been an overwhelming success so far. The full-color book brings the highlights of this great event, which catapulted Seychelles into the world of carnivals with just its first edition. It has been described as an event which has the power to unite countries of the world in an activity which is fun and promotes solidarity between nations and cultures.

At another level, Seychelles has taken a major step towards the completion of its Tourism Master Plan by coming up with the green copy of this very important document. The first copy was presented to the Seychelles President, James Michel, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the Seychelles tourism industry at the beginning of this month. Trade members and stakeholders have already met to discuss the findings of the preliminary document and the final document will be published at the end of November 2011.

It has always been an honor for Seychelles to mark its 100,000th visitor milestone with a special welcome at the Seychelles International Airport, and this year the occasion had double meaning.

Not only did Swiss visitor Sandro Gianella step down from an Emirates flight as the 100,000th visitor, but Seychelles also recorded its 100,000th count way ahead of last year, which was in the first week of August.

This in itself was a major achievement, which thus shows that the country is set to register a new record in visitor arrivals this year.

On the international front, Seychelles’ biggest achievement in the last month has been its admission in RETOSA, the regional tourism organization for Southern African countries.

Seychelles made a special case at the organizations’ meeting in Zambia recently and has been accepted as a member.

It is safe to say that Seychelles is the most exciting destination of the world at the moment and both Emirates and Kenya Airways are running special promotions on that sector.

Kenya Airways has added a third flight for the summer duration due to high demand, whereas Emirates, in conjunction with the Seychelles Tourism Board, has launched a new campaign entitled, “Be smart, be carnaval." This puts emphasis on the great carnival event, and travel agents who sell the highest number of tickets to the event, will themselves be granted the chance to participate in the celebrations.

Seychelles, along with a number of its leading hotels, have also been nominated for two prestigious awards – the World Travel Awards and Villegiature Awards. The destination has a good record in both awards and is hoping to win several categories, which will confirm it as one of the most sought getaways in the world this year.

A new pinnacle in hairdressing service

A new pinnacle in hairdressing service(Forimmediaterelease.net) The UK’s leading color specialists and luxury hair salon, Daniel Galvin, has marked a new chapter in the evolution of its history with the opening of the new Daniel Galvin Hair Salon at London’s next generation of spa, ESPA Life, situated within the latest luxury landmark, Corinthia Hotel London. This stunning new salon, featuring nine stations, bears all the hallmarks of the legendary Daniel Galvin service, offering unrivaled technical expertise and heritage within a brand new ultra-luxurious salon space. The salon team has been handpicked for their West End experience and all have spent three months at the current Daniel Galvin salon becoming “Galvinized.”

Drawing on Daniel Galvin’s strong links with the film industry, the new salon also incorporates the experience and insight of world famous, Oscar-winning, make-up artist and long-time salon colleague, Lois Burwell. A leading light of the Hollywood “behind the camera" scene, Lois helped Daniel design the innovative bespoke lighting for the Ultimate Make-Over Room. The Ultimate Make-Over Room is a world first, created to offer complete discretion and privacy to visiting celebrities, actors, actresses, and privileged salon guests. Designed by GA Design, the hotel’s principal designers, the salon builds on the aesthetic and values of the main Daniel Galvin flagship salon and combines them with the key themes of the rest of the hotel and spa area. With a rich color palette of earth tones, the space has been created to relax guests, providing a hairdressing experience that is completely isolated from the distractions of the outside world. When desired, the ESPA Life spa team is on hand to provide a manicure or pedicure that is second to none, right there within the salon.

Daniel Galvin at Corinthia Hotel London is set to become a destination salon for both men and women. Those in the entertainment industry are sure to use the salon as the perfect spot to prepare talent for press junkets. Spa and hotel guests will want to experience the ultimate blow dry, after indulging in ESPA treatments or before an occasion dinner at one of the hotel’s distinctive restaurants. The salon is also the ideal special location for the stylists to create bespoke looks for brides and wedding clients.

“Opening the first Daniel Galvin salon since our Marylebone flagship within Corinthia London has given us the chance to create something truly magnificent in a really special building in the heart of London. This salon has been two years in its creation, and Daniel Galvin is very proud and privileged to be working with a hotel with such vision," said Salon Founder, Daniel Galvin.

THE ULTIMATE MAKE-OVER ROOM
Inspired by Movies, Media, and Music

Discretely separate from the bustle of the main salon, there is an almost invisible door that leads to the Ultimate Make-Over Room. This unique room offers 100% privacy to visiting celebrities, actors, actresses, and guests looking for something a cut above the usual salon experience.

Corinthia London has already established itself among some of the biggest names in cinema, art, culture, media, fashion, and luxury who have visited the hotel for a first look.

Six private executive-level meeting rooms are fitted with a state-of-the-art, high-definition optical turnkey system that effortlessly allows total connectivity for media broadcasting, recording, editing, and mixing. With Corinthia London set to become the destination venue for the movie, media, and music industries, it made perfect sense for the Daniel Galvin salon to offer an exclusive VIP room.

Oscar Winning Make-Up Artist Lois Burwell consulted on specific design elements of the Ultimate Make-Over Room to ensure its status as a haven for visiting actors and actresses who need to revamp their hair for their current role or simply as a hair and make-up room where they can be prepped for a day of press junkets and interviews within the hotel. Kino Flo lighting has been specifically designed and installed to imitate everything from on-camera HD to outdoor lighting. The room itself offers an intimate space with enough room for a make-up artist and hair stylist to work together.

Lois has been the head make-up artist on Braveheart, Catch Me If You Can, and The Last Samurai, and previously worked as personal make-up artist to Tom Cruise, Mel Gibson, and Michael Caine. Lois has used her expertise and experience working in the film industry to advise on the needs of visiting talent and film crews.

Lois said: “I first met Daniel Galvin over 20 years ago when I started in the business. I was working with an actor on a movie. He came for make-up and hair tests with bleached blonde hair that urgently needed to be corrected for a period piece. I asked around for the best people in town to do the most accurate color and was directed to Daniel’s salon. We’ve worked on projects together ever since. When looking at the needs of the Ultimate Makeover Room, my inspiration came from the private salons of the old-school Hollywood studios. I wanted to create a space that was a private, “safe space" that actors and celebrities in particular, would feel comfortable in. In the age of Twitter and camera phones, it becomes a challenge, even at studios, to find this type of space.

“I wanted to have access to all the tools of the trade, correct power and adapters, lights, and atmosphere, too. A tailor-made facility for make-up and hair to come to life. The priority was a well-lit, functional space with enough comfort and luxury not to feel too much like hard work for the talent. A combination of practicality and comfort with style. A room that just works…. I’ve always wanted to have a space like this available to me; a ‘make-over playroom.’”

Two screens in this unique VIP room offer a choice of a constant stream of live TV or the pick of over one hundred of the world’s most iconic movies to inspire and entertain guests. The room also works as a fully functioning office for those that may need to work or speak with their directors or family while they have their hair styled. As well as having various charging points and Skype facilities, talent will be able to upload rushes of their latest projects to use as a guide brief to the stylists and to ensure film continuity. The complete seclusion of the Ultimate Make-Over Room also ensures it as the perfect choice for ladies whose religion and culture necessitates privacy when exposing their hair.

Simple precautions, trusted vendors remain travelers’ best bets for secure documents

Simple precautions, trusted vendors remain travelers’ best bets for secure documents(Forimmediaterelease.net) International travel is, for many, a prerequisite of a life well lived and has always carried some risks. In addition to the commonly-accepted risks of unfamiliar geography, alternate sets of laws, and language barriers, the millennium has ushered in some uniquely modern travel risks. Identity theft, and the technology that facilitates its growth, has become a global concern to all.

Thieves - whether small scale or highly organized - know that travelers are out of their regular mode of organization and away from their day-to-day routines and, therefore, may not be as diligent in close track of their possessions or paperwork.

However, travelers can take some simple precautionary measures that will go far in maintaining a pleasant and peaceful journey. Limiting the extent of information one shares with strangers about travel plans, purchasing a protective “sleeve” for your passport, and using cash whenever possible can all provide heightened security abroad. Making photocopies of passports, credit cards, and other vital documentation prior to departure can provide backup in emergencies, as long as it is kept in a secure location from the originals. Travelers may also want to carefully consider the risks of posting an out-of-town (or off-the-continent) status on social networking sites like Facebook and Twitter - this information can reach beyond one’s circle of friends nearly instantaneously. There has also been some concern about the ability to scan identifying information directly from the wireless “RFID” chip embedded in newer passports; protective products are widely available to shield against this.

Working with long-established service providers with a track record of secure handling and delivery of customer documents can go far in ensuring your trip launches and lands smoothly. In the instance that a passport or an airline ticket goes missing or is lost or stolen, seasoned travel agents, tour guides, and travel documentation professionals can all provide expertise and immediate guidance on proceeding safely.

Dean Orbell of Travel Document Systems, Inc. added: “Consumers can take some simple steps to protect their critical travel documentation when overseas. We encourage our customers to treat their passports as they would any other high-value item. Should passports be lost or stolen, we can assist in replacing those upon return to the US, but to protect their identity, travelers should always contact the US Embassy or Consular office in the region of travel as soon as possible.”

Travel experts almost universally conclude that no matter the time or place, maintaining awareness of your surroundings and of those whom you do business with, continue to serve as a traveler’s top strategy for document safety.

Representatives from multiple sectors of the Seychelles economy: government, aviation, tourism, fisheries, financial and offshore, property development, and members of the private sector took the floor to explain the many benefits of investing in Seychelles to a more than 100-strong audience.

On July 21, during the tour operators' forum attended by a strong showing of South African and other tour operators selling holiday packages to Seychelles, representatives from Air Seychelles confirmed the airline's commitment to South Africa and, given the numbers of South Africans anticipated to travel between the two countries in the future, the inevitable extension of that service over time to as much as one flight per day.

The tour operators present, between them, contribute some 82% of all arrivals from South Africa, and it was decided that they will soon all travel to Seychelles for a general meeting in which any outstanding issues relating to travel from South Africa will be worked through.

“"South Africa has always been and remains an important market for Seychelles dating back to the earliest years of our tourism industry. The market remains buoyant and is showing continued signs of growth so it is only logical that, together with our South African partners, we do all in our power to ensure that it continues to flourish," said Alain St. Ange, the CEO of the Seychelles Tourism Board. This second day session of the Seychelles Economic Forum in Johannesburg, South Africa, was chaired by Alain St. Ange himself. The gathered tour operators also watched a DVD about the last successful Seychelles Carnaval International de Victoria.

World Travel Awards highlights importance of travel and tourism in alleviating Europe's debt crisis
July 22, 2011 in Travel Related
(Forimmediaterelease.net) World Travel Awards has emphasized the vital role of travel and tourism in re-establishing macro-economic stability across Europe.

The leading awards program, hailed as the “Oscars of the travel industry" by The Wall Street Journal, cited the example of Greece and how its tourism economy is enjoying double-digit growth despite the on-going debt crisis. It noted that tourism in Greece makes up 18 percent of the economy, accounting for one in five jobs.

The announcement comes ahead of the forthcoming World Travel Awards 2011 Europe Ceremony, which will see the leading travel and tourism brands from across the continent compete for the most influential accolade in travel.

The glittering ceremony returns to Turkey’s tourism jewel of Antalya for the second year running, and takes place at the luxury Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa on September 2, 2011.

After months of intense voting, Europe’s travel leaders will find out who will win the prestigious World Travel Awards. Nominees include some of the most respected names in travel including British Airways, Ritz Carlton, Conrad Hotels, Orient Express, Europcar, and Lufthansa.

Graham E. Cooke, President and Founder, World Travel Awards, underlined why travel and tourism is playing an even greater role as renewed debt fears sweep across Europe.

He said: “During times of economic uncertainty world-class brands come into their own, continuing to grow market share and raising their standards to new heights. World Travel Awards winners see struggle not as sign of weakness, but as an opportunity for growth and renewal and a chance to put their business model through the ultimate test.”

“Turkey has proven one of the tourism miracles of the global downturn, and hosting our Europe Ceremony will provide an excellent opportunity for the top decision-makers in European travel to experience its world-class facilities first hand.”

More than 2,000 companies across Europe, spanning more than 250 categories, including airlines, cruise companies, destinations, hotels, and resorts will battle it out for the coveted trophies.

Hosting a World Travel Awards event delivers a number of benefits for the host, including a year-long campaign of promotion to both the trade and public. Meanwhile organizations that make it on to the winners’ podium receive extensive commercial benefits and global coverage.

With the cream of European travel set to attend, the ceremony also offers excellent opportunities for high-level networking.

The Europe Ceremony marks the second heat of World Travel Awards 2011 Grand Tour, and follows the opening leg in the Middle East, hosted at Armani Hotel Dubai in May. Other regional legs will follow in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt; Bangkok, Thailand; and Montego Bay, Jamaica. These winners will progress to the grand final in Doha, Qatar.

The event partners include Cornelia Diamond Golf Resort & Spa, Tourism Authority of Thailand, Jamaica Tourist Board, Mauritius Tourist Board, Conrad Hotels, World.mobi, Armani Hotel Dubai, Emaar Hospitality Group, Dusit Thani Bangkok, Sandals Resorts, Sports Authority of Thailand, Savoy Sharm el Sheikh, and WeClickMedia. Seychelles strikes promotion deal with top music channel MTV(Forimmediaterelease.net) As part of their drive to further raise the profile of the Seychelles islands and create awareness, the Seychelles Tourism Board's CEO, Alain St. Ange, and Tourism Copywriter and Consultant Glynn Burridge met with Patrick Ward, Strategy Manager for MTV Networks Africa, the world-famous cable music channel, to work on a number of exciting projects.

The Seychelles Tourism Board will be looking at ways in which it can collaborate with MTV on providing international coverage via their network of the Carnaval International de Victoria due to be held in Seychelles between March 2-4, 2012 by hosting an MTV team of presenters and technicians who will provide a live feed of the event.

Another possible item of cooperation under discussion is the possibility of MTV moderators using Seychelles as a base for the hosting of events of certain of their corporate clients, as well as exploring innovative ways of showcasing Seychelles' music to a world audience.

"Given the prominence of MTV in today's music world and its great popularity among the world's youth, it is completely fitting that we look at MTV as a future partner in win-win scenarios for both parties," commented Glynn Burridge of the Seychelles Tourism Board.
