Seychelles-South Korea - Speaker Herminie calls for boost to relations at parliament level

The Speaker of the National Assembly, Dr Patrick Herminie, has lauded the cooperation between Seychelles and South Korea and has called for greater effort by the two countries to promote their relationship at the parliament level.

The meeting between the Seychelles and South Korean delegations

Speaker Herminie made this call earlier this week when he met a delegation from South Korea who made a courtesy visit to the National Assembly.

The delegation was a special envoy sent to Seychelles by the South Korean president to convey, on behalf of the people of South Korea, a congratulatory message to President James Michel for winning the recent presidential election.
The delegation comprised two members of the National Assembly of South Korea -- Choi Byung Gook and Rhee Beum Kwan -- among other South Korean government officials.

“The Seychelles and South Korean governments enjoy a very good relationship, but unfortunately this relationship is almost non-existent between our two parliaments,” said Dr Herminie.

The Speaker added that the National Assembly of Seychelles endeavours to develop cooperation with the parliament of South Korea through various means including visits and exchanges between the committees.

Mr Gook, who headed the delegation, also noted the good relationship between the two countries, listing the various examples whereby Seychelles supported South Korea and for which he expressed his deepest gratitude.

Mr Gook praised Seychelles for having been able to maintain political stability in the country and he also commended the National Assembly and its members for working in harmony regardless of their political differences which is something that the South Korean Parliament could learn from Seychelles.

Also present at the meeting on the National Assembly side were Waven William, Nicholas Prea and Clerk Veronique Bresson.
